I enjoyed creating a website and using already created in class to fill it. I had never used Wix before this class, and I found it difficult to begin with. After a lot of toying around with the website maker, I eventually knew my way around it and was able to work it very well. I also enjoyed the discussion boards and being able to connect with my classmates. Since it is an online class, I do not get to get to know my peers and what they are like, but the discussion baords gave me a little insight into each of them.
I believe the way I see and consume media has changed drastically since taking this class. I did not have as much insight to how addicted or controlled by the types of media I tend to use the most of, like social media. After assignments like watching Generation Like and evaluation my daily notification intake, I realized that I am on my phone way too much and I value social media way too much. I have taken a step back from how much social media I consume, and I believe it was been a beneficial change.
Before creating my ePortfolio, I did not have an professional online presence. I had social media accounts and things like that, but nothing that I can show employers. I think this ePortfolio is a positive thing to add to my resume, as it shows I have the abilities needed to make and entire website and keep it updates with information, which is a very valuable skill to have since digital media is becoming more and more involved in the workplace.
I would advise future students making their ePortfolio to go into it with an idea of how they would want it to look and how they want to present their information. I went in and just started making buttons and pages, but did not have a color scheme or flow idea present, so it did not look very professional. I have since sat down and picked a color scheme and changed some of my visuals, and I think it looks better now.
