Reflection - COMM 495

Throughout the semester, I have been working on assignments that are helping me understand communication and how it can help me in a medical or health sense. As I have been completing my assignment I have also been uploading my most important or sentimental projects to my ePortfolio. I enjoy having my information being presented in such a professional manner that also has my own personal twist within the website set up and graphic design work.

While I have worked with an ePortfolio before, I had a very basic view on it and struggled to do simple things, such as making buttons or editing my pages. I did not understand entirely how helpful an ePortfolio could be. I also did not get to intertwine content that aligned with my other academic endeavors. I enjoyed getting an opportunity to demonstrate how both my majors and minor go together, as it shows how my education will help me in the future. This semester, I took it upon myself to make this something I could take pride in and use to show possible internship or career companies. I learned how to arrange my information to show progression. I also increased my knowledge on what kind of assignments should be broadcasted on to my ePortfolio. Assignments that take a while to complete or require individual research are fantastic to include because it shows how much devotion I have to my work.

I believe that my ePortfolio will help me stand out to employers and give them a look into what I am capable of. This whole website is designed by me and all of the information listed is also of my creation. Since I am not done with my communications minor, I will most definitely be continuing to add information to my ePortfolio. I will continue to showcase projects I have worked on in this class and others, but also begin to show new assignments from new classes.

My experience this time was to go above and beyond from how I showed my work to others, but also how I introduce myself to my colleagues or future employers. I took what I already had made taste changes based on assignment difficulty, design choices, and overall conciseness of the page. Looking back, I was adamant on making creative changes but did not get to complete them as I wished. Moving forward, I will be using online or ODU resources to make the ePortfolio more eye-catching.
